During our delightful week in Airlie Beach, my husband and I, accompanied by our two children aged 9 and 11, seized the opportunity to explore the renowned Whitehaven Beach. The weather was stunning, prompting us to embark on the half-day Whitehaven Beach tour with Cruise Whitsundays, an experience that turned out to be nothing short of fabulous.
Opting for the afternoon cruise, we strolled down to the Port of Airlie and eagerly boarded the ferry that would transport us to our destination. A brief stopover at Hamilton Island marked a change of vessels before we continued our journey to the pristine Whitehaven Beach. We arrived just before 2 pm and enjoyed a two-hour stay, basking in the beauty of the surroundings.
Cruise Whitsundays had thoughtfully set up shade tents and provided a refreshing drinks station to combat the heat. To cater to varying preferences, they also supplied an assortment of beach games and toys—from cricket and volleyball to frisbees, soccer balls, and the classic buckets and spades for the younger children. For those inclined towards a more active experience, a bush walk was on offer.
We all had a wonderful time – my children loved playing frisbee and building sandcastles, and I could even enjoy a nice walk down the beach. The water was crystal clear and so blue – there were plenty of fish darting between our legs all the time. It was a beautiful temperature and we stayed in the water for most of our time on the beach!
The tour also included a professional photographer on board. On the return ferry ride, each group was handed an iPad to peruse their photos, offering the opportunity to purchase any. The sunset cruise on the way back was lovely and we were given a delicious afternoon tea of cheese and crackers, olives, salami, lamingtons, brownies, and fruit.

Whether boarding from Airlie Beach or Hamilton Island, this tour is an excellent choice for families seeking a memorable experience without committing to a full day on the water. The crew’s professionalism and friendliness added to the overall positive experience, leaving me eager to embark on this adventure again.
